What time does my Codex limit reset?
Use the time shown for the exhausted allowance in your account, rather than the latest public announcement. Check whether you exhausted a short usage window, the weekly allowance or a shared credit balance. After redeeming a full banked reset, read the updated time again.

| Option | When it applies | Allowance and timing | Official rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal usage window | Automatic, at the account's displayed time | Refreshes that allowance; read each window separately | Check rules ↗ |
| Public reset | Applied to accounts covered by the announcement | An announcement is not a saved offer or proof of your account's recovery | Check rules ↗ |
| Banked reset | Saved until redeemed or the offer expires | A full reset refreshes eligible windows and can move the weekly date; read the updated time | Check rules ↗ |
| Paid instant reset | Applied as soon as purchase succeeds; cannot be saved | Restores 5-hour and weekly allowances, rather than adding credits | Check rules ↗ |
| Usage credits | Separate balance used after included allowances are exhausted | Does not increase the included plan limit or turn into a banked reset; personal-plan purchases expire after 12 months | Check rules ↗ |
For a paid instant reset, the next weekly refresh is seven days after your first Work or Codex request following application, rather than necessarily seven days after payment. Copy the updated time from Usage. Paid reset timing ↗
Checked October 1, 2026. Paid resets are offered to eligible Plus/Pro personal accounts; other named plans are excluded by the current rules. Credits and banked offers have separate eligibility. Compare the price, remaining allowance and expiry shown in your account before choosing. These are ChatGPT usage credits, separate from API credits and wallet funds.
Which Codex usage limit is resetting?
When does the Codex weekly limit reset?
Use the weekly reset timestamp shown in Usage, with its displayed time zone. A full banked reset changes that date; copy the updated time before calculating.
What does Codex rate limit reset mean?
Read which allowance the limit notice names. A short-window countdown, weekly allowance and credit balance are different controls; one window recovering does not establish that another recovered.
When do Codex tokens reset?
For plan usage, follow the exhausted allowance and reset time in your account. A remaining percentage does not specify a token count, and there is no universal midnight reset for every account.
Official usage guidance →Find the reset time in your account
Open Codex Settings or your usage dashboard and check the specific allowance, remaining amount and reset time shown. In an active CLI session, enter /status. Confirm the account and workspace before copying a time. Your plan and the exhausted allowance matter; there is no single midnight reset rule for every Codex user. Official account usage guidance →
A limit in one window does not identify the reset time of another. Some plans share allowances or credits with other agent features. Check the displayed notice rather than inferring an account countdown from a public announcement.
Calculate remaining time from your account timestamp →
If you meant standard ChatGPT message limits, see the separate ChatGPT reset guide. A public Codex announcement does not establish your ChatGPT message reset time.
Which account fields should I copy?
- Open Settings → Usage or enter /status in your active CLI session; confirm the account and workspace.
- Find the weekly allowance. Copy its displayed reset date and time, the matching time zone and remaining percentage.
- Enter those values in the calculator. Recheck Usage after a banked reset or a change in allowance.
Field illustration with fictional values, not an account screenshot. Your actual account may show different labels and times.
| Copy from your account | Fictional example | Calculator field |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly reset date and time | 2026-10-08 14:00 | Account reset date and time |
| Time zone for that displayed time | Asia/Shanghai | IANA time zone |
| Weekly allowance remaining | 48% | Remaining weekly allowance (%) |
If the account shows usage consumed, do not enter it as remaining. If a reset time or time zone is not shown, confirm it before calculating.
Three meanings of a Codex reset
- Personal window: The allowance and reset time shown for your account. Follow the account's current timestamp; usage and available options vary.
- Automatic public reset: An announced action applied directly to eligible limits. It is not saved for later, and subsequent use consumes the refreshed allowance.
- Banked offer: A saved one-time option you can redeem while available. Eligibility and expiration belong to the specific offer. Its grant date does not tell you when someone used it.
A full banked reset refreshes the 5-hour and weekly windows and changes the weekly reset date. After use, reopen Settings → Usage and enter its new timestamp in the calculator. Official banked reset rules →

A pending announcement is not a completed reset or your personal reset time. Check its current verification status in the public archive.
Plan against what Usage actually shows
Copy the reset date, time and time zone for the weekly allowance, then enter the remaining percentage. Our calculator only divides that percentage across time or your planned work hours. It does not read your account, predict token costs or guarantee linear usage.
If the shown time has passed but access has not returned, check the correct account and workspace and refresh Usage. If the discrepancy remains, OpenAI Support can investigate the displayed allowance and time; Support does not provide manual usage resets. Account troubleshooting guidance →
Why hasn't my Codex limit reset?
The countdown ended, but I still hit a limit
Refresh Usage or run /status again. Confirm the account and workspace, then read which allowance is exhausted. A short-window reset does not prove that the weekly allowance or shared credit balance has recovered.
The time looks wrong or changed after a banked reset
Match the input time zone to the account's displayed time. After redeeming a full banked reset, copy the new weekly reset time. Recalculate and replace any old calendar reminder; the calculator cannot update your calendar automatically.
A public reset was announced, but my account did not change
Read the original announcement for eligibility and whether it describes an automatic action or a banked offer. If your displayed allowance still looks wrong, contact OpenAI Support with the allowance, reset time, client, model and time zone. Remove sensitive information from screenshots. Check public announcements and their evidence
Open the public archive to review each record's action type, verification status, source and snapshot time. Imported or unverified labels do not establish that a reset completed, and incomplete coverage cannot establish that no reset occurred. Your account's allowance remains a separate check.

Read the evidence and its limits
WhenResets aggregates public announcements and keeps available source links. A source's confirmed or regular label is a classification, not independent verification of every account outcome. Records, dates and types can be revised, and coverage may be incomplete. Announcement time may differ from the effective time or a user's banked redemption.

Public history does not guarantee the next grant. For new announcements, see the available Codex alert options. These alerts concern public events, not your personal quota timer.
